GROWTH OF THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN BENIN: 87.17 BILLION FCFA RAISED BY BIIC AND A CONSORTIUM OF BANKS IN PROFIT FROM STB
At the head of a consortium of banks, BIIC proceeded on 24
June 2024 in Cotonou with the signing of a major financing agreement
with the Société des Textiles du Bénin (STB)
Leader of a banking pool including CBAO Benin (group
Attijariwafa), BGFI Bank Benin and BOAD, the banking institution raised

June 2024 87.17 billion CFA francs for the benefit of the society of
Textiles of Benin (STB). The signing ceremony for this financing took place
was realized on June 24, 2024 in the premises of the BIIC. Carried by the
STB and supported by the expertise of ATMS (Africa Textile Management
Services), this financing project is part of the creation strategy
of added value through the complete transformation of production
cotton in Benin

. The funds will be used to finance up to 60%
an 87.17 billion FCFA transformation project for the STB (which
will pay the remaining 40% itself).
BIIC will contribute 21.3 billion FCFA, BGFI Bank 10
billion FCFA, while 11 billion FCFA will come from
Beninese subsidiary of the Attijariwafa group (CBAO Benin) and 10 billion
FCFA from BOAD.
The project will build a total of ten
textile factories, each with an annual capacity of
processing of 10,000 tonnes of raw cotton. Planned finished products
include clothing, household linens, household items
sport.
“We are proud to participate in this transformative project which positions Benin as a leader in sustainable industrialization in Africa and the world”, declared Arsène M.DansOU, Director general of the BIIC, while welcoming this partnership between the BIIC, a national bank, pan-African banking groups and a bank of development. For its part, STB declared that the project will make it possible to create 7,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs. It indicates also having received orders from customers like the Federation International Football Association (FIFA).
